Before I get started, I am cleaning and organizing my garage and You can see what I have done so far at JJFerrero's Garage Floor Makeover.

I am guilty of mess. I personally try to tackle many jobs at once and things may seem crazy, but know that sloppy is different than organized chaos. Whenever something is only organized to you, it leaves a massive headache to everyone else if you should ever leave this world. Piles of stuff for you would soon become piles of garbage to others (if left unchecked) - so staying neat, organized, and having stuff easily identifiable and appropriate storage is VERY important. So how do I deal with it??

In my experience, my projects are big. I have to tackle small chunks. I also keep accumulating stuff so my means of storage must continuously evolve... allow me to explain.

If you have a handful of tools, a small toolbox may suit your fancy and keep your stuff protected, organized, and in its place. As you acquire more stuff, you will find that it is easier to stay organized if everything has a home, and that means bigger or more creative ways to store stuff. When things don't have a home then things can quickly become overwhelming, Take a time out to regroup the projects, remember that floor space is your friend, and find ways to get things moved up and out of the way.

Sometimes when I have to regroup, I have to remove everything from the garage, and replace everything into a designated home. A home may be a hook on a wall, a box on a shelf, a spot in a cabinet, etc. While everything is out of the garage, it is a perfect time to make repairs, paint, and refinish anything that is exposed. If you need to rearrange things, build, or acquire new means of storage... now is the time to do it! My unique situation is that my garage is two floors and almost 7000 square feet, and I have to empty once section at a time to tackle this task - AND THAT IS WHAT I AM DOING AS WE SPEAK!!

Presently, I have freed up a car bay in the next section to give me the space over the winter to prepare the walls for paint. In the spring, I hope to remove all of the content of this section and make it look nice and organize it for future work. I will be posting as I go, so please follow along!
