Celebrating the Rusto Garage community: our members

Submitted to Blog

While we wind down this incredible automotive community, we're celebrating the heart and soul of this group: our members!

Let’s take a look back at some of the people who made this space so great.

What is your favorite automotive project you’ve done and how did you accomplish it?

My 95 Mustang GT. Learned a hard lesson on an automotive repair so enrolled in ASE automotive classes. The instructor used my Mustang as almost a teaching tool - it also helped that he raced Mustangs.   @Tipad5050

How would you describe yourself/occupation to a complete stranger?

I am an avid Jeeper who likes to hit the Arizona desert every weekend with my family.  I run a high volume aftermarket automotive repair facility.  @kight84

What’s your dream ride?

Chevrolet ‘57 bel air convertible, red and white. With a white top, and red and white interior. I’ve wanted one since I was a kid.  @Jrandbs2

What’s your favourite part of this online community?

The group is very friendly and interactive that's what I like most. @opie04

How would you describe yourself/occupation to a complete stranger?

I am a lifelong car guy who loves all things automotive.  My dad was an engineer for GM before he retired in 1987 (he had a big hand in the development of the 1969 K5 Blazer), so I was exposed to some cool vehicles as a kid.  I pursued a career with GM as a result, and retired from GM after 32 years.   @VehicleNanny

What’s your favourite part of this online community?

I enjoy the activities and interactions that the Rusto Garage has and trying out products with exceptional results. @JJFerrero

What interests you most about the automotive world?

I'm into old classics and I like the idea that something that was around when my parents or grandparents were my age can still be cool and turn heads.  @Rob c

What’s your favourite part of this online community?

All the members' car pictures. @Arthur

What’s the best advice anyone has ever given you?

No matter the challenge you are handed, find a way to knock it out of the park. @Magsy87

What automotive projects do you like to focus on?

I will be 70 years old this September and I still do all my auto repairs, modifications and detailing myself. I like the feeling after a finished project to just stand back and know I did it myself. It takes longer and beats me up more but I still enjoy it.  @lindenbob

What is your favorite automotive project you’ve done and how did you accomplish it?

My dad and I restored a 1964 Chevy short bed pickup a few years back. He was in Missouri and I lived in Indiana at the time. We updated the  engine, put an overdrive transmission for long trips, of course, paint and body as well as interior. I took a 2 week vacation and spent it in his garage, then hauled it back to Indy to finish it. The same day I got it out of the garage to test drive, a local sheriff stopped by and offered me a bunch of money for it. I wish I would have kept that one.  @SteveA.

What brought you to Rusto Garage?

I am a very big car enthusiast and love the idea of helping to give feedback and reviews to new or improved products.  @Coop51

How would you describe yourself/occupation to a complete stranger?

I am a true “car” guy! I grew up around cars with a Father owning a Rambler Dealership. One of my nicknames in school was “Wheels”. I always wanted to work as a car tester at a AMC proving grounds. That required a engineering degree. I didn’t want to go to engineering school so I decided to become a automotive mechanic. My first job was working a gas station at 16 years old, back when gas stations had service bays. Later I landed a co-op job in high school as a mechanic working on the local Sheriff’s patrol cars. I had no desire to be around cops but it was the only mechanic job available. I later was hired full time by the county as one of 2 mechanics. The Sheriff took a liking to me and later recruited me to be one of his Deputies. I knew the county had a 25 and out retirement program and my 5 years as a mechanic went towards that 25 years. I figured I only had to work 20 years as a Deputy and could retire at 44 years old. I took the job. I did retire exactly at 25 years. Well kind of retired. Sheriff convinced me to come back and work part time as a Deputy and I did that for another 21 years. I also during my retired years ran a limousine business for 15 years. I did this to feed my expensive classic car collecting hobby. Currently I am still working part time for the county as a soil erosion inspector.  @themayor

What automotive projects do you like to focus on? What’s the most challenging project you have tackled (or are putting off!)?

Putting together a new striker for my Mustang. I'm still gathering parts as funds allow.  @Nickyb1993

What brought you to Rusto Garage?

I really like that most everybody on the site are backyard hands on tinkerers, mechanics, visionaries and thinkers.  @lpskaug@yahoo.com
