Shareback: Auto Enthusiast This or That

Submitted to Blog

We recently asked Rusto Garage members a series of questions about automotive preferences. Here's how your fellow community members responded!

"Wow! This is a tough one. I picked car but I must say I have had SUV's and trucks as much if not more than cars and most times had 1 of each at any given time.Again, I had manual most of my life and now at my age I prefer automatic. I will say it does depend on the car as to what I feel is proper.I have had coup, convertible and Targa tops. I now prefer coupe as it is easier on the interior and me. I much prefer vintage because I can trouble shoot them much cheaper than modern tech."  @lindenbob

"The question "What do all of these choices say about you as an automotive enthusiast?"says that I am an "Autohaulic"... I'm addicted to anything with an engine.Being an auto enthusiast is is like being a wine connoisseur. It is much more than a simple choice of "car or truck", "standard or automatic". It's even more than the vintage, the pairing, personal tastes, and more. This questionnaire is like asking a wine connoisseur "red or white", "sweet or dry". For me, "This wine in a box is pretty good and I like the old bottle of wine too!"  @JJFerrero

"Honestly, I like cars and trucks both. Whether they are stock or modified doesn't matter to me. But, a classic muscle car/truck tops the list for me. I always like rowing through the gears."  @lrajkovich

"I like older 2wd pickup trucks. I grew up riding with my grandpap in his 1976 Ford F-100. I drove him around when I got my learners permit. I wish I could go back in time and do it all over again." @mconfluence@gmail.com

"Like other folks here, I found it hard to make a choice in the options above. I've been a car guy for a very long time and have an appreciation for everything automotive (although the jury is still out on modern tech!). I belong to several automotive forums, but those are specific to a vehicle. I like this one because of the varied interests of the members here. The use of Rust-Oleum products got us to join, but people sharing how they use them and their eclectic tastes keeps me coming back. These surveys start a bigger conversation, which I find fun and comforting." @VehicleNanny

"It says, that I like my automobiles to be on the old school side of things! I like simple, easy to work on, easy to make power, and less headaches." @Tophat

"I prefer old school to new technology. My truck, a 1996 Silverado, originally had fuel injection..the previous owner had issues and removed all it. Then the truck sat for a few years before I bought it. It had 106k miles on the odometer when I got it.. .I bought an aluminum performance intake manifold, Edelbrock 650 cfm carb, new fuel tank, HEI distributor and electric fuel pump. I adapted the throttle position sensor to the carb so the computer can tell what gear the transmission should be in. I've had the truck for 4 years and it runs like a new one. It now has about 117k on the odometer." @SteveA.

"I like modified vintage cars that are rear wheel drive manual couoes with some classy leather. Always put in the time to hand wash." @Schmidt_house_1

"I appreciate original, stock, classic vehicles. My favorite years would be from 1965-1974 when the muscle cars being produced were so exciting. I also appreciate the classics from the 40’s & 50’s. I have mix of classic and muscle cars in my private collection." @themayor

"I like trucks, because I go off roading a lot, which requires four wheel drive, but I am aldo a huge car guy! I like simple, that's why the older vehicles work for me. I like manual shift, more power, lower gearing! I generally dig almost all kinds of automobiles!" @Tophat

"I appreciate and am in love with automobiles. They do a lot for us so it's up to us to take care of them." @LMG2242

"I think I'm more Old School. The older vehicles are so much more durable and easier to fix." @Tls040

"Manual trans with modern tech and rear drive best of both worlds." @Tipad5050

"I like stock-looking cars, but subtly modified. Improved but not visible modifications." @rrrandall3

"I like to actually feel like I'm driving the vehicle." @Luggnutt
