Turning a Tesla Into a Fish Inspired Projector (Yes, really!)

Submitted to Blog

This 2014 Tesla S was customized for the documentary “Racing Extinction” (which is now up for best eco docu of the decade!)

We were tasked with creating this Tesla to replicate a cuttlefish that has tentacles that strobe with bioluminescence back and forth. We created tenticle looking stripes that were not visible until the system was triggered on. This was the vehicle that they used to project massive inspirational, meaningful images onto buildings, mountains and so on across the US in the film.

It took 2 months to create with one team applying and another working with their electrical team for the sequencing electronics.

This car was driven by Leilani Munter who is the professional race car driver seen in the movie.
