Light Up the Road with Wipe New Headlight Restore

Submitted to Blog

Wipe New Headlight Restore lights the way for a better driving experience. The easy to use kit contains everything you need to  quickly restore clarity to worn, foggy headlights. As well as greatly improving road illumination and visibility.

Headlight lenses are now commonly made from polycarbonate plastic due its flexible yet durable properties. Unfortunately, that means they are also prone to oxidation. Over time, UV exposure and abrasive road elements cause the lenses to become cloudy and yellow.

Wipe New Headlight Restore was developed to quickly and easily improve clarity, by removing the cloudy haze and discoloration caused from oxidation. It can be used on all exterior vehicle lights, and each 0.5oz kit will allow you to treat up to two headlight lenses. The wet sanding process helps by easily removing buildup and polishing the lenses, while the Wipe-it® cloth provides additional UV protection to help prevent future discoloration, as well as ceramic protection to improve durability.

What’s included in the Wipe New Headlight Restore Kit 0.5oz Kit:

  • Written directions with links to online videos, tips and demonstrations

  • 1 pair of nitrile gloves

  • 1 Precision Wipe-it® infused with Wipe New®

  • 1  Lens Polishing Pad - 2000 grit green side & 3000 grit gray side

  • 1 microfiber towel

Important Application information:

  • Wear gloves - The instructions say “Failure to wear protective gloves may result in injury”.  It’s also important to wear gloves so that you do not leave any oils or residue from your skin on the headlight lens surface.
  • Apply in a DRY and well ventilated area - do not touch the surface for 1 hour after application, and do not expose it to any moisture for at least 24 hrs. Exposure to any water  or moisture, including not thoroughly drying the lenses after wet sanding, can lead to a streaky appearance.
  • Do NOT apply to hot surfaces or in direct sunlight -  ensure the headlight lenses are cool prior to application. Applying to hot/warm lenses or in direct sunlight can result in the surface appearing streaky.  I have found I achieve the best results if I have them in a cool, dry, sunless place for the entire 24 hours.
  • Using a dry or partial dry Wipe-it® applicator cloth will cause streaking - for best results, use the applicator cloth quickly after opening it and discard it when it starts to dry out..
  • Be careful not to get any product on other surfaces of your car, home or clothes. If you accidentally get some on another surface, wipe it off immediately with a dry cloth.
  • Acetone can be used to remove product off a painted metal surface within the first hour. After that, the product will need to be removed using a polishing compound or high grit automotive sandpaper - such as 2000 grit.  Do NOT use acetone on plastic or non-painted metal, damage will occur

How to apply Wipe New Headlight Restore:

1. Move your vehicle into a cool, ventilated area that has no direct sunlight.  Applying to a hot surface, or in sunlight can cause streaking, so it is really important to ensure the lenses are cool and kept out of the sun.

2. Test to see if the polishing pad is needed. The way the lens appears when wet is how they will look after restoring them.

  • Pour water onto your headlight lenses, if they are clear when wet, but cloudy when dry, you can skip the polishing pad, but still thoroughly clean the surface. If the lenses still appear cloudy when wet, use the polishing pad to remove the oxidation.

 3. Clean the surface - I always recommend starting with a clean surface. Using a degreaser such as Krud Kutter® is a great way to remove any grease, oil or other dirt and road contaminants from the surface. Spray both lenses and let it sit for a few minutes before cleaning it off and then rinse it down thoroughly. Do not use abrasive brushes or scrubs to clean the surface, only wipe with a soft lint free cloth.

4. Remove the oxidation. Before applying the Wipe-it® ceramic protection, all of the oxidation needs to be removed from the lenses. You do this by wet sanding them with the included Lens Polishing Pad.

  • Keep the lenses wet while you wet sand them with the polishing pad.
  • Start wet sanding with the GREEN side, until the lenses are clear. The oxidation coming off the lens is like a brownish liquid, keep sanding until it is all gone.  Be sure to keep the lens wet the entire time you are sanding, and be careful not to sand over any of the car's other surfaces.
  • Next, while still keeping the lenses wet, sand them with the GRAY side. The Gray side is a 3,000 grit polishing pad that offers a fine finish prior to applying the Wipe-it® ceramic protection.

5. Using the microfiber towel to thoroughly dry the lenses and surrounding areas. Moisture of any kind will cause streaking, so it is incredibly important to make sure the entire area is completely dry.

 6. Put on the gloves & apply the Wipe-it®. Only wipe each area one time. Apply in long, even passes across the lens, being careful not to overlap the passes or get it on any of the surrounding surfaces.

  • The lenses will dry within one hour, but take 24hrs to fully cure. Do not expose it to moisture of any kind during the first 24 hours or streaking will occur. It is also best to keep it out of heat and sun during the 24 hr period following application.
  • Ensure the cloth is wet, a dry cloth can lead to a streaky appearance.

7. Dispose of the Wipe-it® cloth -  Simply set it up high where children and animals can not get to it, and allow the cloth to completely dry before throwing it away ( approx. 30 mins).

Pro Tips:

  • Prepare both lenses before opening the Wipe-it® cloth. The cloth dries out rather quickly, and using a dry cloth will result in a streaky experience, so I've found its best to keep the Wipe-it® package sealed until all of the parts are ready for application.
  • Keep the headlight lenses cool and out of direct sunlight for the full 24 hour cure period to achieve the best results
  • Use a degreaser such as Krud Kutter to clean the surface before using the kit.
  • Even if your headlights appear clear, don't skip the polishing pad process. Wet sanding with the polishing pad allows for the Wipe-it® to apply smoothly and evenly.
  • Use a water bottle to spray the lenses, this makes it easy to keep them wet during the whole sanding process.
  • Use a hair dryer on the cool setting, or compressed air, to remove excess moisture trapped in scratches, nooks and crannies - without heating the surface. Any moisture can lead to streaking; it is very important that they are dry prior to application and remain dry for 24 hours after application.
